Kerala Expedition: A Tapestry of Culture, History, and Culinary Delights

On a journey through Kerala, I found myself in the quaint charm of Pallakad, staying in Namara, a hidden gem in the Palakkad district. The tranquillity of Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha, unfolded before me as the backwaters painted a mesmerising canvas, especially during the sunset.

Delving into the heart of tradition, Mundarath House in Alivanchary village hosted a traditional Kerala wedding—an immersive experience that unveiled the cultural richness of the region. The flavours of Kerala came alive with my first Sadya meal, a gastronomic journey through the diverse and delectable local cuisine.

Venturing further, history came to life in the three kingdoms of Kerala—Travancore, Malabar, and Cochin. The narrative extended to the valiant Abaka, a warrior queen who left an indelible mark on the legacy of Kerala's past.

In Cochin, the Kerala Folklore Museum became a treasure trove, spanning three floors with artefacts from across the state. Mattancherry Palace, the Kerala Kathakali Center, Ava Maria Basilica, and the historic Jew Town unfolded stories of Cochin's rich heritage, while a dinner at Brunton Boatyard Hotel added a touch of luxury to the experience.

Exploring the vibrant streets, I stumbled upon Arrapa restaurant on MG Road, savouring the flavours of Kerala's iconic fish and hoppers. The journey deepened with insights into Kerala's dance forms—Kathakali, Ottan Thullal, Thayam, Rohini Attam—each a living testament to the state's cultural tapestry. The visit to the Kathakali Center allowed me to witness the intricate makeup process of the dancers before a captivating performance.

The experience in Cochin extended beyond dance to the martial arts of Kalari Payattu, an ancient form that showcased the strength and agility of its practitioners. As my Kerala adventure unfolded, each place, dish, and performance added another layer to the rich and diverse tapestry that is God's Own Country.
